The benefits associated with wireless facilities have not been lost on the more technologically aware high street retailers. Vianet has reapplied the skills and technology developed for vending to provide "Smart" automated retail stations. Vodafone is the first company to spot this by providing automated sales facilities within some existing mobile phone stores. These now achieve a higher rate of sales, while at the same time releasing valuable trained staff to be more productive.
Other retailers are now exploring using the same approach to sell higher value products including mobile phones, media, technology, and games.
Smart Retailing in Vodafone stores
Vianet provides wireless connection to the automatic retail units installed inside Vodafone stores and in some public locations such as Heathrow Airport. Customers are able to purchase mobile phones and other products using cash and payment cards. Vianet provides the facilities for Chip & PIN card transactions, stock control, machine management and dynamic information displays.
